The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Monday dismissed a petition challenging reappointment of Dr Mujahid Kamran as Punjab University Vice Chancellor. Earlier, a law officer informed to the court that after amendment in University Act 2012 there is no bar on reappointment of a VC. He also said that according to the amended act, age limit for appointment of a VC was enhanced from 60 to 65 years.

The court dismissed the petition and observed that this writ cannot stand after this amended law. Petitioner, Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed, through Aftab Ahmed Bajwa, submitted that he had filed the petition before amendment in the act and this act has no retrospective act. He also said that the amended act was also against the fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution. He submitted that Kamran did not enjoy good reputation as number of corruption stories against him were published in newspapers.
